In short, a CVD diamond is an acronym for a lab grown diamond which is created using the Chemical Vapour Deposition method. This method involves inserting a small diamond seed crystal into a sealed vacuum and subjecting it to high pressure, temperature and gas. By adding the gas ,(often methane) and subjecting it to high pressure and temperature, the gas’ carbon atoms are broken down. This results in these atoms latching on to the diamond seed crystal to form more crystals. This process then eventually creates a diamond.
A diamond created using the CVD method is almost identical to one made naturally. It also usually takes about a month or so to make a 1 carat CVD diamond.

This term is simply an acronym for a diamond that is created using the High Pressure and High Temperature method – hence “HPHT”.
HPHT was one of the first methods used by scientists to create lab grown diamonds in the 1950s, and it involves simulating the method of natural diamond production. This process is carried out by placing a carbon material, such as graphite with a metal catalyst such as iron, nickel or cobalt and exposing it to extremely high pressure and temperature to form diamond crystals.
